Photographer Mario Testino’s Arts Foundation MATE will inaugurate its second exhibit, Alta Moda, this upcoming April 20th. The exhibit’s name, translated to “High Fashion”, alludes to the topic at hand: the dress and textiles of the highland region of Peru. Twenty seven photographs shot by Testino (between 2007 and 2011) will feature the richly embellished clothing used in various traditions and celebrations, and the intricately woven textiles worn by communities in Cusco, Calca, Chumbivilcas, Espinar, and Paucartambo, to name a few.
I have the opportunity to show Peru and the world the beauty, rich history and importance of Peruvian traditions,” said Testino in a MATE press release.
The exhibit will run through September 16, 2013, and will be accompanied by a book that will include Testino’s photographs and an introduction by the ever so loved and revered, Hamish Bowles.
And to further entice you to make a visit, their Café MATE, where you can enjoy tea & pastries or a glass of wine, and the Bodega MATE where you can purchase t-shirts such as the one below, might do the trick.
